About the Committee

The Young  Professionals (YPs) Committee is responsible for developing and implementing programs and activities directed toward young members, including university students and young professionals (under the age of 35). The activities aim to develop technical and leadership skills, providing both peer groups with guidance and support to facilitate their career progression.
An important focus is placed on developing activities that aid in the transition from student to young professional (YP). Innovation is at the forefront and the committee makes recommendations to the Board as necessary to ensure young member programs have a continuous improvement strategy in place.

The committee also places an emphasis on communication by using various platforms and creative delivery methods to facilitate technical knowledge sharing among young members. Activities to improve industry image, encourage networking between young members and industry, and attract young people to the industry are also supported. Members serve one-year terms, can be renewed up to need, evaluation, and desire by the Section Board of Directors.

Technical Sales Consultant - landmark, Halliburton, Iraq


Ahmed an Active SPE Member at the Baghdad Section who holds a BSc degree in Geological Sciences from Basra University in Iraq, and has +12 years of experience as a Modeler, geophysics, and production geologist working on open hole interpretation, planning, and interpreting production logs as well as 3d seismic interpretation and Construct geological models. He worked with ExxonMobil Iraq limited, led PL interpretation for West Qurna1. An authority in practical production log acquisition and interpretation and make decisions based on the data, he has performed over 800 production log interpretations in all environments including injectors, horizontals, and multiphase wells and keep abreast of new technology and integrate innovative technology, to apply for production enhancement opportunities.
Ahmed worked as a Production Consultant at Landmark – Halliburton worked on different projects as a production consultant providing tools and methodologies for enabling production optimization.
Currently, Ahmed is working with Landmark- Halliburton Iraq as a Technical sales consultant covering Geoscience and the production domain.

Hasanain holds a BSc in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Baghdad, he previously worked in the Iraqi Drilling Company  (IDC) as a Drilling Engineer, and then moved to work with Schlumberger Company in Iraq and was stepped up from a Reservoir Simulation Engineer to Production Logging Interpretation Engineer then Reservoir Engineering Team Lead until he reached his current position which is Digital Shadow Project Manager

Hasanain is very experienced in Reservoir Simulation and Production logging interpretation. He is the Technical sales and business development representative in the Reservoir Engineering domain in Schlumberger Iraq, also he is experienced in technical support and consultation services for the E&P companies who are working on Schlumberger reservoir simulation software (ECLIPSE, FrontSim & Petrel RE). Hasanain Delivering reservoir simulation software courses (NExT certified Instructor) for: – ECLIPSE Blackoil Reservoir Simulation. – Petrel Reservoir Engineering. – Petrel Uncertainty analysis and Assisted History Matching. – Petrel Well Design. – Petrel Advanced Wells. – FrontSim Streamline Reservoir Simulation. Besides the mentioned technical qualifications, he is PMP® and experienced in Project Management and Project Coordination, and he is a very active SPE Member.

Dhyaa holds a B.Sc. in petroleum engineering and has 8 years of oil and gas experience in the upstream segment of the industry. His career in the upstream comprises 1 year in the service sector with China National Logging, 5 years with BP Rumaila Iraq (ROO) and the rest of them with current job position in the state sector at Dhi Qar Oil Company. Over these 8 years, Dhyaa has worked in Well Operations, Engineering, Safety and Leadership roles. His experience in the rig site included, and was limited to, witnessing RIH and POOH completion assemblies (Production Packer & ESP), supervising Correlation operations for Perforating, CIPB’s, CR’s and track Workover performance parameters and identifying Root Cause of NPT. Also, he endured the technical integrity of Workover Rig operations and compliance with ROO Standards and HSE and guidelines. When he was promoted as Workover and Completion engineer, Dhyaa started originating Programs, MoC, Dispensation documentation and End of Well Reports in addition to the interpretation of cement evaluation and corrosion logs, besides his knowledge in saturation logs. Dhyaa works to see ideas and systems translated into realities. Logical, analytical and critical, achieving power is important to him. Due to demonstrating a consistent performance level and a high degree of commitment with ROO, he was awarded SILVER Winner in Personal Ownership two times a sequential. Dhyaa is an active SPE member since 2012, where recently he became certified SPE Ambassador Lecturer and earned the Technical Pro ribbon in SPE Connect.

Zahraa is a young professional who supports the social activities in our committee. She has graduated with a B.Sc in petroleum engineering in 2019, from the University of Baghdad. She has Participated in different kinds of internships which collectively has earned her an integrated set of skills and sharpened them. She also has good experience in public relations and communications and business development.
